Welcome to a world where superheroes are a given. They've roamed the Earth for a handful of decades now. Plucking falling aeroplanes out of the sky and saving the planet from intergalactic threats, stopping up wormholes. The usual stuff.
What is less known is that a few of these symbols of moral courage have been sowing their wild oats. There was an agreement - a sort of treaty - that stated that superheroes were not to procreate with humans. The Caped Crusaders were asked to just say no. It was a treaty that held.
Or, did it?
Turns out that a few of the wilder members of the superhero community couldn't resist the lure of 'normies'. One summer, about twenty years ago, these Olympians (as they modestly called themselves) were on a world tour. When this all-star travelling circus reached London, well, to cut a long story short, the treaty was not, ahem, upheld.
Years of being the good guys had taken its toll and on this one particularly crazy night, these Olympians went out and… you can fill in the gaps. And so, a handful of half-super-person-half-not-super-persons was born. There have only been rumours, unconfirmed, that these British offspring of the Olympians, the ‘Half Baked’ as they are known, are out there somewhere… Until now.
Imagine your (unofficial) mum or dad could… fly. Or let’s say they could read minds. Or breathe underwater. Things that may have some actual, practical application. Well, unfortunately, these abilities, when combined with ordinary human DNA, got… scrambled. The heroic mega-powers of the Olympians have been diluted, warped and, frankly mangled into… powers? Yes, certainly we’re talking about the extraordinary - the extraordinarily useless.
Let’s face it, who hasn’t felt like a freak? Like you don’t fit in. Like you got barred from the party. Like the only person who knows what it’s like to be you, is you?
That’s the jumping off point. But in fact, this is a story of hope. HALF BAKED is really about belonging. About finding your tribe and realising that some of those qualities you thought made you an outsider, an outcast even, were the very things that make you special. Oh, and it’s also going to be funny.
